Updates: Bayview tree cutting
S.Hatch, T.Callahan and L.Colasurdo in a meeting with B.Nightingale felt that they got great input and information. Jefferson County is going to charge $153 for multiple tree removals in the future (e.g. Bayview project). Nightingale cited slope stability, geotech input, hydraulic issues, topping versus removal, and stated that there is not ever a simple solution to these matters. The Vegetation Management: A Guide for Puget Sound Bluff Property Owners (a NOAA publication) received praise for its delineation of these issues.
Syd Hatch also suggested an article be written for The Voice regarding emergency tree removal, replacement of previously cut beeches, lower reasonable replacement plantings owners might consider once a tree is removed, and that an SBCA ARC or Village rep be present. Bayview Village is working on a comprehensive plan to accommodate for emergency tree removal to avoid the falling of over-saturated trees. There will be more permit applications coming to cut on the slope, with a list of preferred replacement trees. A wide-angle photo taken will indicate clearly beforehand which trees are targeted.
It was also suggested that a letter be sent to PLA suggesting it might be good public relations for them to observe and follow the CC&R’s outlined for the Village in which the new construction is taking place. Their cutting of trees in defiance of the permit issued by Jefferson County for a new construction in Teal Lake Village is cause for concern.. There was no one there to police it as there is only one compliance officer for the entire Jefferson County.
