SBCA Tennis Committee
Meeting, July 10, 2007
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m.
Committee members present were:
Clint Webb
Connie Wilkinson
Jim Richards
Lisa Gatlin
OLD BUSINESS:
Clint Webb reported that everything on our agenda for the spring spruce-up party was accomplished. He will ask Don for suggestions on how to deal with the pollen problem on the courts. The pollen collected in the dip spots and made the courts very slippery.
It was reported that the Saturday free lessons and round-robin play spring/summer is a huge success. The lessons will be kept at one hour and some practice time will be added.
New BUSINESS:
The board decided to postpone the one-year anniversary celebration for the opening of the South Bay courts until the beginning of the 2008 tennis season instead of holding it in July of this year.
New committee members were discussed – Deanna Richards will replace Ruth Ballard since she will be moving out of the community. Hopefully, Joe Kelly will take Connie Wilkinson’s place as our SBCA Board Member, as Connie will be leaving the board this year.
PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS/MAINTENANCE:
Jim Richards will ask Kevin at the Golf Club about using the maintenance cart to remove the storm-blown limbs and we will get a work committee together to do the work. Clint will organize the project for installing a rock barrier where needed and Jim will help with the work – hopefully, others will join in.
Clint Webb is taking care of having the gouges fixed in the courts and also the court number markers re-painted and replaced as needed. He has paint left over to re-paint the court markers.
LONG-RANGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, LIST/PRIORITY FROM
DEC. 5 MEETING, ADD/DELETE/REVISE:
It was decided by the board that a new drainage trench/PVC piping is not needed if we keep the drain cleaned out.
Other items on the list will be discussed with the new board.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Connie Wilkerson spoke briefly concerning the article in the “Voice” and reported that our “Racquet Club” is alive and well and that after speaking with LMC, learned that a new tennis club could not be formed within LMC, as it would be a club within a club and not allowed.
Lisa Gatlin reported that Pickleball is beginning to be a fast and growing sport here in our community and asked about the possibility of having the other two courts striped. Clint Webb will get a quote for having this done from Mid Pack Construction (contractor) when he meets with them on Aug. 6th. to fix the gouges in our courts.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
